Cole & Hannah's Garden Wedding at Venue 1230
Some wedding days stay with you long after the last dance.
Not because of the timeline, the details, or even the photographs themselves.
They stay with you because of the people.
Cole & Hannah's wedding day was one of those days.
Their wedding day at Venue 1230 in Hastings, Michigan was a beautiful reflection of who they are as a couple. Although the calendar still said spring, the day felt every bit like summer. Warm sunshine, blooming gardens, and endless blue skies created the perfect backdrop for a celebration that felt as light, joyful, and effortless as the couple at its center.
From the moment I arrived, there was an unmistakable sense of peace.
No rushing.
No stress.
No overwhelming timelines pulling everyone in different directions.
Just excitement, anticipation, and the quiet joy of knowing the day they had been waiting for had finally arrived.
While the girls spent the morning putting the finishing touches on hair and makeup, laughing together and soaking in every moment, the guys were tucked away in their own corner of the venue. Metallica echoed through the room as they worked together to solve a Rubik's Cube, proving that even on a wedding day, some things never change.
One of my favorite things about Venue 1230 is how naturally it balances elegance and comfort. The reception space was beautifully prepared, with every detail thoughtfully placed and waiting for guests to arrive. Outside, the ceremony area glowed beneath the sunshine, surrounded by lush gardens that created the whimsical atmosphere Cole and Hannah had envisioned from the beginning.
Before the ceremony began, we shared some of the most meaningful moments of the day.
Hannah's first look with her dad was one of those memories that will stay with me for a long time. The emotion on his face said everything words couldn't. Pride. Love. Gratitude. A lifetime of memories wrapped into a single moment.
Shortly after, Cole and Hannah exchanged private vows.
Away from the crowd and free from distraction, they carved out a few quiet moments to focus entirely on one another. No audience. No expectations. Just the two of them sharing promises that would become the foundation of their marriage.
Guests gathered beneath the open sky as the gardens of Venue 1230 provided a breathtaking backdrop for the ceremony.
There is something special about witnessing two people stand before their closest family and friends and publicly choose one another.
The ceremony was intimate and deeply personal. Loved ones shared meaningful scripture readings that reflected the couple's faith and values. One of the most beautiful moments was the handfasting ceremony, an ancient tradition where the couple's hands are bound together to symbolize the joining of their lives and their commitment to one another.
As family and friends looked on, Cole and Hannah stepped into a brand new chapter together.
Husband and wife.
Following the ceremony, we gathered family members and the whole wedding party for portraits before making our way inside to escape the afternoon heat. The sun was relentless, but the bright skies and billowing clouds made for some of the most beautiful portraits of the day.
Then it was time to celebrate.
Then it was time to celebrate.
The grand entrances brought an entirely new energy into the reception space as cheers filled the room and smiles spread across every face. It was the perfect transition into an evening filled with celebration, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Guests enjoyed cake cutting, heartfelt conversations, and one of my favorite traditions, visiting each table for photographs. Looking around the room, it was impossible not to notice the incredible community surrounding Cole and Hannah. Every table held people who had played a role in their story and were there to celebrate this new chapter alongside them.
As the evening continued, the reception became a beautiful reflection of the relationships that had shaped them.
The first dance allowed Cole and Hannah a moment to simply be together amidst the excitement. Parent dances followed, bringing tears, smiles, and countless memories to the surface as families celebrated not only where they had been, but where they were headed.
And then the party officially began.
The dance floor filled.
The music got louder.
The laughter became contagious.
Guests celebrated with the kind of joy that only comes when everyone feels completely present in the moment.
As the evening came to a close, I couldn't stop thinking about how quickly the years can pass by.
Somewhere between the years are countless memories, milestones, challenges, victories, and ordinary days that quietly built the foundation for everything they celebrated here.
And maybe that's what made this wedding so meaningful.
It wasn't just about a beautiful venue, stunning gardens, or even saying "I do."
It was about witnessing the result of so many years of choosing each other, loving each other, and growing together.
Cole and Hannah, thank you for allowing me to document pieces of your journey over the years. Watching your wedding day unfold felt less like photographing an event and more like celebrating friends whose story I've been lucky enough to witness from the sidelines.
