Kelly and Ben are officially married! 🤍
These two tied the knot on a cool, crisp Friday in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a day that started at one of the most beautiful churches I have ever had the opportunity to photograph and ended with inflatable guitars, a packed dance floor and a CO₂ cannon. So, I'd say they covered all the bases.
Their wedding day began at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Ann Arbor, where they were surrounded by a small group of their closest family and friends. And before I even get into the ceremony itself, we need to talk about this church.
It is absolutely stunning.
St. Thomas has been part of Ann Arbor for well over a century, with the current historic church dating back to 1899. From the soaring ceilings and arches to the intricate details throughout the sanctuary, there was something beautiful everywhere I looked. It was easily one of the most picturesque churches I have ever photographed a wedding in, and I probably could have spent the entire afternoon finding new little corners and details to photograph.
But as beautiful as the setting was, Kelly and Ben's ceremony was what made it special.
It was traditional, meaningful and wonderfully intimate. With a smaller guest list made up of the people closest to them, the ceremony felt personal from beginning to end. There wasn't a huge crowd or a packed room, just their favorite people gathered together to watch them get married in this incredible space.
After the ceremony, we stayed inside St. Thomas for family portraits, taking full advantage of that gorgeous architecture before everyone headed outside for Kelly and Ben's send-off.
Their guests lined both sides of the walkway and filled the air with bubbles as the newlyweds made their way through. It was such a fun way to officially send them off as husband and wife and kick off the next part of the celebration.
From St. Thomas, we headed to The Polo Fields Golf & Country Club in Ann Arbor for the reception.
Before all of the entrances, speeches and celebrating began, we had a chance to sneak outside onto the course for some photos of just Kelly and Ben.
The timing could not have been better.
We were getting close to sunset, and the course gave us a beautiful open backdrop with the softest light coming through. It was also one of the few opportunities during the day for Kelly and Ben to step away from everything happening around them and have a few minutes together.
Those ended up being some of my favorite portraits from their day.
Then it was time to head inside, and this is where the energy completely changed.
Kelly and Ben made their grand entrance, speeches were given, dinner was served, first dances happened... and then everyone was ready to PARTY.
And this family knows how to have fun.
The entire reception had this perfect mix of wholesome family fun and completely chaotic dance-floor energy. At one point, everyone was rocking out together with inflatable guitars and microphones, dancing and singing along like they had rehearsed the whole thing beforehand.
They absolutely had not. 😂
It was just one of those receptions where everyone was genuinely having a good time. The music was great, the dance floor stayed busy, and there was always something happening to photograph.
I don't usually stay until the very end of a wedding reception, so getting to experience the full night with Kelly and Ben was something a little different for me too.
And I am SO glad I did.
Because their grand finale was a CO₂ cannon.
Yes. A CO₂ cannon.
After everything that had happened throughout the day, it was honestly the perfect ending. Loud, energetic, completely unexpected and ridiculously fun to photograph.
And then suddenly... it was over.
Wedding days always seem to move quickly, but this one especially felt like it flew by. One minute we were inside the quiet, beautiful sanctuary at St. Thomas and the next we were surrounded by music, dancing and a CO₂ cannon at The Polo Fields.
Kelly and Ben, thank you so much for trusting me to document it all. It was truly an honor to spend the day with you and your families, and I wish you both nothing but happiness in this next chapter together.
For everyone else, enjoy a little sneak peek from Kelly and Ben's beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan wedding day! 🤍
